Oncology and Radiation Therapy
Calm, carefully planned treatment, delivered step by step
Radiation therapy is a common and effective part of cancer treatment.
It may be recommended on its own or alongside other treatments, depending on your diagnosis and care plan.
If radiation therapy has been recommended for you, your care team will guide you through what to expect and support you throughout treatment.

Patient Perspectives
What radiation therapy is
Radiation therapy uses carefully targeted radiation to treat cancer.
Treatment is planned with precision and delivered over a series of sessions designed specifically for each individual.
Each plan is developed to treat the cancer while protecting surrounding healthy tissue as much as possible.
Why radiation therapy may be recommended
Radiation therapy may be used to:
- Treat cancer directly
- Reduce the risk of cancer returning
- Relieve symptoms or improve comfort
Your oncologist will explain why radiation therapy is recommended in your situation and how it fits into your overall care plan.
What to expect during treatment
Radiation therapy is usually delivered over multiple sessions.
During treatment:
- Each visit follows a consistent routine
- Treatment itself is painless
- Appointments are typically brief
- You will be supported by a dedicated care team
Many people find reassurance in knowing what will happen at each visit. Your team will explain each step and check in with you regularly.
Planning and ongoing support
Before treatment begins, careful planning is carried out to ensure radiation is delivered accurately and safely.
Throughout treatment, your care team:
- Monitors progress closely
- Supports you in managing side effects
- Answers questions as they arise
- Adjusts care when needed
Support continues beyond your final treatment session, with follow-up and ongoing care as appropriate.
