Why am I doing this?

I’m almost a survivor - diagnosed and had surgery for testicular cancer earlier this year. Even though the tumor was caught early, I'm part of the 15% for which surgery wasn't enough and I'm starting chemo in December! It is a pretty stressful time for me and my family and I wasn’t very comfortable talking about it. My husband Shane, brother Ben and Brother-in-law Terrence are joining me in support, we are growing moustaches as our cancer ‘ribbon’. That said, MOvember is a great time for men to talk about a number of issues affecting men, to highlight the importance (as it was in my case) of self-examination and getting in to see your doctor early and to share our stories. It's imperative that men are encouraged to self-examine and go to doctors or health professionals when there are concerns; annual check-ups and screenings are extremely important because they can help detect diseases like cancer early - and the earlier that cancer is caught, the higher the chance of it being treated. ... The top three types of cancer that most commonly affect men are prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and colo-rectal cancer. If you have the capacity, please donate to Bermuda Cancer & Health to support treatment and education programmes and hopefully one day we can end the trauma that cancer wreaks on millions of families worldwide.
