World Cancer Day with a Commitment to Cancer Care for All in Bermuda

Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre Marks World Cancer Day with a Commitment to Cancer Care for All in Bermuda

On 4 February, Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre (BCHC) joins organisations around the world in recognising World Cancer Day, a moment to stand together, honour those affected by cancer, and reaffirm the shared responsibility to ensure that cancer care is accessible to everyone.

World Cancer Day, led by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), reminds us that behind every statistic is a human story, a mother, a brother, a neighbour, a friend. This year’s campaign reinforces the global movement toward people-centred cancer care, grounded in compassion, equity, and the belief that no one should face cancer alone or unsupported.

At Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre, our commitment is clear: everyone in Bermuda should have access to excellent cancer care.

Every day, people come through our doors carrying worry, hope, questions, and courage. They arrive from every corner of the island and from every walk of life. Each person deserves the same respect, the same attention, and the same opportunity for the best possible outcome.

“World Cancer Day is not just about raising awareness,” said Dr Chris Fosker, CEO and Medical Director of Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre. “It is about recognising the humanity in every patient and ensuring that care is delivered in a way that honours their lived experience, their dignity, and their place in our community.”

Cancer touches nearly every family in Bermuda. Its impact is physical, emotional, financial, and deeply personal. At BCHC, patients and families are supported through prevention, early detection, diagnosis, treatment, survivorship, and wellness, with clear communication, coordinated care, and services that adapt to individual needs.

Clinicians take the time to listen, explain, and guide. Cancer navigators help patients and families make sense of what can feel overwhelming. Teams across the Centre work together to ensure no one feels lost or unheard.

To mark World Cancer Day, BCHC is:

· Sharing educational materials and resources through its website and social media channels,

· Displaying awareness information on site for patients and visitors, and

· Engaging local media to highlight the importance of equitable, community-centred cancer care in Bermuda.

Moving Forward Together

“World Cancer Day gives us a moment to pause,” added Dr Fosker, “but more importantly, it renews our commitment to ensure that every person in Bermuda knows BCHC is here for them, openly, fully, and without barriers. Cancer care should never feel out of reach.”

Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre remains steadfast in its commitment to providing exceptional, equitable cancer care for the people of Bermuda, today, tomorrow, and for generations to come.
