The work of Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre will be featured in a global discussion on the future of cancer care when Dr Chris Fosker joins an international panel convened by the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN), one of the world's most influential organisations in cancer care.
Dr Fosker, BCHC's CEO, Medical Director and Clinical Oncologist, has been invited to participate in the webinar, Oncology Workforce Shortages and the Future of Cancer Care, on 5 November 2026. The panel includes representatives from the World Health Organization, the Lancet Commissions, academic cancer centres and international oncology nursing leadership.
The invitation followed Dr Fosker's presentation at the Caribbean Association of Oncology and Haematology Annual Scientific Conference in Trinidad, where NCCN leaders heard how specialist expertise can support high-quality cancer care in smaller communities.
During the discussion, Dr Fosker will share BCHC's experience developing local cancer services in Bermuda and explain how skilled local teams, supported by specialist collaboration and partnerships, can deliver world-class care close to home.
Over the past decade, BCHC has transformed cancer care on the island. Before radiation therapy became available locally, around 80 Bermudians each year travelled overseas for treatment. Today, only around 1% of patients choose to travel elsewhere for radiation therapy, reflecting confidence in receiving care within Bermuda while remaining close to family, friends and support networks.
Minister of Health Kim Wilson, JP, MP, said: “The Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre has transformed the way cancer care is delivered in Bermuda, ensuring more patients can access high-quality treatment close to home and surrounded by their support networks. This invitation is a testament to the dedication and expertise of the Centre's team and an important recognition of Bermuda's contribution to advancing cancer care. We are pleased to see Bermuda's experience helping to inform international discussions on the future of healthcare delivery.”
