Early detection is one of the most powerful tools we have in the fight against cancer, and that remains true whether you've lived here for years or have only just arrived. If you're moving to Bermuda, understanding how to access screening and specialist care will help you settle in and stay healthy.
Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre (BCHC), one of Bermuda's oldest nonprofits, has led cancer prevention and early detection for decades. We were the first to provide local mammography and continue to expand our services. Our breast imaging services are accredited by the Canadian Association of Radiologists (CAR), reflecting our commitment to care that exceeds global benchmarks. BCHC also operates Bermuda's only radiation therapy unit, accredited by the American College of Radiation Oncology (ACRO), and through our radiation alliance with Dana-Farber Brigham Cancer Center, patients receive world-class treatment protocols without the need for leaving the island.
We have a full-time, on-site radiologist dedicated exclusively to breast health. Working closely with physicians and patients, our radiologist provides clear explanations of any breast changes, direct communication of results, personalised guidance, and reduced wait times. This means fewer delays and more confidence as you navigate your health in a new place.
Beyond clinical excellence, BCHC offers practical support designed for newcomers. Our Cancer Navigation Service helps you understand a cancer diagnosis, access specialists, and coordinate care across healthcare teams. We also offer Reduce Your Risk presentations that share simple daily habits to lower your lifetime cancer risk, giving you practical tools as you settle into island life.
As a registered charity, BCHC subsidises screening, imaging, and radiation therapy through community donations. Our Equal Access Fund ensures that anyone in Bermuda, regardless of insurance status, can access essential services without delay or co-pay. For newcomers navigating new coverage or waiting periods, this provides invaluable peace of mind.
Getting started with BCHC is straightforward too. Once you've secured a general practitioner, they can refer you for comprehensive breast imaging services, including screening and diagnostic mammograms, breast ultrasounds, and image-guided biopsies and bone density exams. For individuals with a family history of breast, ovarian, prostate, or other hereditary cancers, BCHC also offers genetic testing and counselling, a programme that’s been running at the Centre for over 20 years. Our certified team helps you understand your risk, explore preventive strategies, and determine the most appropriate screening pathway.
New to Bermuda? BCHC is here to support you at every stage of your health journey.
