More Information

September Marks Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month

September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month and Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre is helping to increase awareness of the disease by offering a free public health talk.  Rhonda Smith-Simmons will give a voice to Ovarian Cancer and the public is invited to come and learn about this disease and understand more about what a woman’s body may tell her. The free health talk is scheduled for Thursday, September 8th at 5:45pm at Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre. Seats are limited. Call 236-0949 to register.

The symptoms of Ovarian Cancer are often vague and can easily be misdiagnosed.  Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre urges women to see their gynaecologist or physicians, if they experience any of the following symptoms daily or on most days for more than three weeks:

  • Bloating
  • Pelvic or abdominal pain
  • Difficulty eating or feeling full quickly
  • Urinary symptoms (urgency or frequency)

The Resource and Lending Library at Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre offers a comprehensive array of books and pamphlets on ovarian cancer, kindly donated by the Mid-Ocean Ladies Golf Group, as well as a wide selection of books and DVD’s on many other health topics.  Visit the Library during our opening hours, which is conveniently located on the ground floor of Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre, 46 Point Finger Road, Paget.

It is important to reach out and share this information - spread the word and help raise awareness about ovarian cancer.  Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre, through the generous 2009 sponsorship of Mid-Ocean Ladies Golf Group, created a series of note cards which carry a simple ovarian cancer awareness message.  Each set of 9 cards contains 3 original designs and retails for $12.00.  Give ovarian cancer a voice by purchasing the beautiful note cards and spread the word by sending them to the women in your life.  Note card sets can be purchased from the Boutique at Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre or online at www.chc.bm.

For more information about Ovarian Cancer and to register to attend the free public health talk, please contact Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre’s Education Officer, Mrs. Rhonda Smith-Simmons, at 236-0949 or rsmith.simmons@chc.bm.
