Count down to Relay For Life

Over 120 teams have registered for Bermuda's fist Relay For Life.  We are thrilled to have Ironshore as the presenting sponsor!

On 30 May 2014, Bermuda Cancer and Health will kick off Bermuda's first Relay For Life event.  The Relay For Life involves teams of participants who walk laps around a track for 24 hours to raise awareness and funds (through pledges and fundraising activies) to support cancer prevention, detection and treatment.  The first Relay For Life event was launched in 1986 by Dr. Gordy Klatt and later became the flagship awareness and fundraising event for the American Cancer Society.  Today, the annual Relay takes place at 5,200 US locations and in 24 other countries around the globe.

Bermuda's first annual Relay for Life will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, 30 May, with members of local fundraising teams of 10 to 15 people taking turns doing laps around the track at National Stadium's North Field for a full 24 hours, concluding at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, 31 May.  Each team member is being asked to raise $100 to participate.

95% of funds raised during the Relay will remain in Bermuda to support Bermuda Cancer and Health in their efforts to cover the costs of cancer screening tests for those who cannot afford it, improve access to cancer treatment in Bermuda, deliver education and awareness programmes to assist with cancer prevention and early detection, and help guide patients through their cancer care journeys through the Cancer Information System.  5% of funds raised locally will be donated to the American Cancer Society to help fund their cancer research, prevention and care programmes.
