Two Independent Cancer Charities Sign MoU to Enhance Cancer Care for Bermuda

Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre (BCHC), registered charity #070, and PALS, registered charity #171, have strengthened their long-standing relationship through the signing of a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The agreement formalises their shared commitment to delivering coordinated, patient-centred cancer care and support across Bermuda.

The MoU was jointly signed by Dr Chris Fosker, Chief Executive Officer and Medical Director of Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre, and Colleen English, Executive Director of PALS, on behalf of their respective independent, non-profit charities.

For many years, BCHC and PALS have worked side by side to support individuals and families affected by cancer, each focusing on different stages of the cancer care pathway to avoid duplication of services.

  • Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre provides cancer prevention education, genetic counselling and testing, cancer navigation, breast screening, diagnostic imaging, and oncology services, including Bermuda’s only radiation therapy unit.
  • PALS provides home-based cancer care and support, helping patients remain comfortably and safely at home during and after treatment. Their services include nursing care, emotional support, practical assistance, essential equipment, and transportation.

Despite challenges within the broader healthcare system, both charities continue to deliver uninterrupted services within their areas of focus. BCHC and PALS employ dedicated, highly qualified clinical teams who ensure that patients receive consistent, evidence-based care aligned with their treatment plans. Both organisations understand how challenging it can be for patients and families to navigate cancer, and by strengthening their collaboration, they aim to provide greater stability, continuity, and reassurance at a time when reliable access to care is more important than ever.

Together, the two charities aim to improve how patients move through each stage of the cancer care pathway. The MoU formalises a strengthened approach to collaboration, ensuring smoother coordination of services and better access to care that supports wellness, recovery, and quality of life. Through this agreement, BCHC and PALS will work more closely across several areas, including coordinated patient care, wellness and survivorship support, shared educational initiatives, and the development of new or enhanced support services. This united approach will help provide a more seamless continuum of care for patients living with and beyond cancer.

“This agreement formalises what has long been true, that PALS and BCHC share a deep commitment to providing compassionate, integrated care for our community,” said Dr Chris Fosker, CEO and Medical Director of Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre. “By strengthening how we work together, we can ensure that every person with cancer in Bermuda receives the best possible support at every stage of their journey.”

“For 45 years, PALS has supported Bermuda’s cancer patients, providing compassionate care where it matters most - at home. Strengthening our partnership with Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre ensures every patient receives seamless, coordinated care, guided by dignity, respect, and compassion, from diagnosis through treatment and home-based support,” said Colleen English, Executive Director of PALS.

The MoU also outlines opportunities for shared staff training, collaborative service improvements, co-branded community education, and joint evaluation of patient experience and outcomes. A Joint Liaison Group will meet regularly to guide partnership activities, monitor progress, and identify future areas of innovation.

This joint initiative reflects the shared vision of two independent cancer charities working together to deliver compassionate, evidence-based care, ensuring Bermuda’s patients and families receive the right support, from prevention to treatment to home-based and palliative care.
