The SunSmart Camp Accreditation Programme is designed to protect children and teens from skin cancer by supporting camp owners and directors to implement best practices in sun safety. The programme is free for participating camps.

Are you ready to become a SunSmart Camp? Accreditation is free. And it’s easy. In fact, you’ll probably discover you’re already practicing some, if not many, sun aware and sun safe behaviours. Here’s an overview of the certification process for prospective SunSmart accredited camps:

• Register your Summer Camp TODAY by completing the attached form.
• Attend one of three training sessions - send two camp staff to the 1hr training session on either June 6th, 7th and 14th at 5:30pm at Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre. 
• Develop and submit your camps Sun Protection Policy
• Practice and reinforce the following sun safe behaviours with all campers:
  • apply broad-spectrum 30 SPF sunscreen frequently – especially when sweating or going in and out of water
  • cover up with hats, t-shirts, wraps, etc.
  • seek shade and avoid the sun when possible between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
  • wear sunglasses UV 400
  • drink water and stay hydrated
• Offer sun safe activities during camps.
• Participate in a camp evaluation process which includes a survey that evaluates product usage and level of adherence to the camp's policy.
