Women's Health Cancer Screening RecomendationsCancer screening recommendations vary from country to country. The medical community in Bermuda recommend the following cancer screening guidelines: Cervical: Under age 21 : First Pap test within 3 years of first sexual intercourse; tests for sexually transmitted diseases should be performed as soon as indicated and as often as indicated by sexual history. Age 21 to 29 years : Pap test every 2 years if results are normal. If results are abnormal patients must discuss screening schedule with their doctor. Age 30-69 years : Annual pap test until 3 consecutively normal, then every 3 years. Annual pelvic exam is still advised at this time. Age 70 and over : If three or more consecutive normal Pap tests, and no abnormal Pap test results in the past 10 years – on advice of physician. Breast: Breast self-exams beginning in the 20’s Clinical breast exam every 2-3 years under age 40 Annual mammogram beginning at age 40 (may begin earlier if family history present of breast or ovarian cancer) Age 40+ - Annual mammogram and clinical breast exam Colorectal: Colonoscopy beginning at age 50 (may begin earlier if family history present) Age 50+ - Follow-up as per physician advice – generally every 5- 10 years.
