Anti-Smoking Programme
Lung cancer is the No. 1 cancer killer and is responsible for more deaths than breast cancer, prostate cancer and colon cancer combined.
Tobacco addiction is by far the most important risk factor in the development of lung cancer which is estimated to be responsible for 1.3 million deaths worldwide each year. Therefore, tobacco is the single most preventable cause of illness and death.
Anti-Smoking Programme
Beginning in November 2009, as part of Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre's efforts to educate the public on the prevention of all types of cancer, a pilot anti-smoking programme was introduced in three (3) local primary schools to Yr. 5 and 6.
By the fall of 2010, the programme was extended to all middle schools students.
If you wish your school to participate please email Rhonda Smith-Simmons, Education Officer.
